Info Post, Spring 2013
Jan. 3rd, 2013 09:39 amHOORAY FOR NEWBIES.

So if you read the title Switched at Birth, you pretty much have the concept of the ABC Family series down. Two baby girls got swapped by an exhausted nurse a few hours after they were born. The one born as Daphne Vasquez went home with John and Kathryn Kennish, a baseball player-turned-car wash mogul and his wife. The one born as Bay Kennish went home with Regina Vasquez and Angelo Sorrento. She's an artist who does hair for a living; he's an Italian carpenter/charming rogue who's already overstayed his tourist visa.
Fast forward 15 and a half years, and Bay (the one who should have been Daphne) does a blood typing experiment in school and finds out the results mean she probably isn't genetically related to her parents. Fast forward another two months or so, and the families -- minus Angelo, who took off over a decade ago -- are all living together on the Kennish estate, where Daphne and Regina move into a guest house the Kennishes conveniently don't use. And from there soap opera-y hijinks ensue. It's really good and the next season is premiering in a couple days, so check it out.
Personality-wise, Bay is highly dramatic, impulsive, a smidge self-centered, and a searcher who's struggling to find her place in the world. She's a bit of an introvert, happiest when she's off painting on her own, and doesn't necessarily expect or want everybody to like her. Her sense of humor tends to the sarcastic -- she's very much the girl who hangs back and says snarky things from the sidelines. But when she's in a good mood, she's bouncy and quick to laugh. She has a habit of wanting to help her friends even if they don't want her help or they're asking for something she shouldn't give them, which tends to bite her in the ass.
Daphne is deaf due to childhood meningitis, and Bay dated her deaf-and-generally-awesome best friend Emmett for several months until he cheated on her like a moron. So she knows ASL and will likely be looking for excuses to practice it in Fandom. She's also a gifted artist, with a special interest in grafitti art; she sees it as a kind of voice of the voiceless. The switch isn't her favorite thing ever to discuss, but it's not a secret -- she'll talk about it if she has to or if she trusts you not to be too weird about it.
Bay is coming to Fandom from some months after the end of the first season, minus one cliffhanger that I don't want to deal with until I know where the show is going with it. She says a couple times in canon that she's sick of being the girl who got switched, and her parents are already talking boarding school after some not-so-minor delinquency on Bay's part, so she decides to get a fresh start on her own terms. Her world has no magic or superpowers of any sort, so Fandom is going to be ... an interesting adjustment.

Fandom: Runaways (Marvel-616)
Bullet Points:
★ Android with a hero complex. Doesn't mind people knowing he's part robot; does mind being judged because of it.

★ Kind of a dork in general -- he has a photographic memory and reads some weird things.
★ Techie, but more an engineer than an inventor.
★ Ultron's son and Ant-Man's grandson, in a sideways kind of way. He's much more eager to talk about his (dead, civilian) mom.
★ Has electromagnetic powers like manipulating metal and sending out shocks of energy; also super-strong, though he rarely remembers or uses it.
★ Bilingual in English and Spanish; the Spanish mostly comes out when he's annoyed or excited.
★ Dating the amazing
dirtiest_skank since October, after months of the 'we are just friends, NO REALLY" dance.
★ Canonmate to
solarhippie and
arsenicmauls, though he's from a different universe to either of them and is a lot further along in the timeline.

★ Tends to throw money at her problems, or ask the family lawyer to deal with them.
★ Comes across as a party girl. Is actually fairly sweet and naive.
★ Firmly believes in twintuition, no matter how often the theory is disproved.

Name: Jack Priest (
bitten_notshy)
Physical Appearance: Wiry 21-year-old, 5'5" but reads as taller due to sheer force of personality. Curly blond hair and blue eyes. Dresses in simple, tailored clothes. English accent.
PB: Ed Speleers
Fandom: New Amsterdam series by Elizabeth Bear
Bullet Points:
★ Born in 1881 Prague. Raised from age 7 (after being sold into servitude by his parents and apprenticed to a different vampire) by a thousand-year-old vampire. Came to this time for his senior year of high school and never really left.
★ Has somehow convinced the administration to let him teach. Finds this very weird.
★ "Day person" at Devil's Nest, which basically means he is a combination of personal assistant to
texted3times and assistant club manager.
★ Has been a werewolf about a year now, with all the usual strength-and-speed-and-fangs-and-silver allergy that implies. Quasi-packmate to
justlurkinghere, at whom he sighs a lot.
★ Expects to be liked, and will do his best to make you like him. Also a terrible flirt.
★ Can turn threatening on a dime if he thinks you might hurt someone he loves.
★ Bisexual. Sometimes surprisingly casual about sex for a former Victorian. But he's loved only two people, and has been monogamous (mostly) and happily in a long-distance relationship with
icecoldfrost since last summer.
★ Working toward a history degree at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, with an ultimate goal of law school and a career in supernatural rights law.
★ Lives on Apocalypse Avenue with the best housemate ever,
not_a_whiner.

PB: Amber Benson
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Bullet Points:
★ Wiccan, and immeasurably more comfortable with using magic than she was early in canon.
★ Shy with new people. When she gets to trust someone she's warm in an almost maternal way, with a goofy sense of humor.
★ Freshman at UC-Sunnydale who just finally met Willow. Study buddy to
not_a_parakeet.
★ Lesbian. Dated
brat_inslayage for almost two years, and they're still friends in a complicated way.
★ Knows she dies at 21 in Kennedy's universe. Has convinced herself it won't happen for her.

★ Lives outside D.C.
★ Has a job and two small kids, either or both of which occasionally conspire to steal me away from the game. Best bet to reach me is either during the workday during the week, and after 8 p.m. any day.
★ Not the best at small talk; if I drop a conversation, I can almost promise it wasn't you.
★ Swears Teen Wolf wasn't a thing when I picked Victor's PB, but is now a little obsessed anyhow.
★ Also adores Krysten Ritter, and will keep using B---- in 23 gifs for this part of my info posts as long as possible.
